About Us

Allied Design Company is a design partnership between RSG Landscaping and Lawn Care, Inc. and Land Tech Group with the intent of pooling their resources in order to offer their clientele expanded services and collaborative design capabilities.  

We offer landscape architecture services to homeowners, engineers, architects, builders, and contractors for the purpose of making ideas a reality.  We create custom plans for all types of landscapes and hardscapes including site development; planting plans; walls and walks; pools, spas and water gardens; irrigation and lighting, pergolas and arbors, outdoor kitchens, and decks. Accurate and scaled plans are integral to the process of visualizing a concept, estimating a project, purchasing materials and correct installation of a design.  A well thought out and appropriate design will pay for itself in time and cost savings up front, creative solutions, practical use of space, appropriate material selection, increased value and appeal as well as long term sustainability and functionality.

All work is done as a team with each staff member contributing and therefore enhancing your design by extended knowledge base, experience and creative vision.  The plans are produced using specialized computer software programs. The results vary by request from simple conceptual layouts to complete plans.

While customers of Allied Design Company are under no obligation to contract the services of either of the parent companies, both RSG and Land Tech do offer proportionate reimbursement of design fees should installation contracts be awarded.

Tracey Norvelle
Landscape Architecture was Tracey’s chosen profession from early in high school in a small Michigan town.  With a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Michigan State University in 1983 and Virginia landscape architecture certification and then licensure, Tracey has accumulated a variety of professional experience with former employers. Tracey has worked for M&J Developers, Inc., Hurt & Proffitt, Inc., Liberty University and Taylor Brothers since coming to Lynchburg in 1985. She has accumulated design, maintenance and management experience for all types of residential, commercial, industrial, and academic projects.  Tracey has worked with contractors, government agencies, realtors, lawyers, engineers, surveyors, architects and numerous other professionals to get results and/or solve problems. Her broad range of experience gives her the knowledge to come up with solutions to problems that are both aesthetic and practical. 

Rebecca Mahanes
Growing up in a house with commercial & residential real estate brokers, people who love to garden and be creative, she gravitated towards landscape design as a way to combine land planning and creativity. Rebecca graduated with a 5 year bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech in May 2008. In April 2010 she gained her LEED Green Associate accreditation. She has spent time at two large land design offices in Richmond, VA working as an intern during her summers in college. During her internships she spent time doing land planning, drafting construction documents in AutoCAD, doing zoning research, researching site amenities, and creating planting plans for both residential and commercial design projects. She has also spent 15 months on construction sites, after college, working with engineers and contractors, performing materials testing and documentation as a quality control inspector for a geotechnical engineering firm in Richmond, Va. Being a recent college graduate, she offers her knowledge of new design techniques and computer technology including: CAD, Photoshop, sketch-up, and other software programs.

In 2010, RSG Landscaping and Lawn Care, Inc. celebrated its 20th anniversary as a successful local business.  RSG offers residential and commercial services including: maintenance, both contractual and one-time, landscape installation of all types and sizes, irrigation and low-voltage lighting installation, seeding and sod as well as ball field installation. The president and founder, Ronnie Guthrie, is a Landscape Industry Certified Manager, a respected recognition within the industry demonstrating a high level of knowledge over a broad range from corporate management to production/operations. RSG landscaping and Lawn Care, Inc. currently employs over 117 career professionals holding a combined total of 145 various professional certifications, and operates in locations including Lynchburg/ Central Virginia, Roanoke, Charleston/West Virginia and Richmond/ Eastern Territory.

The Land Tech Group of Virginia, Inc., a custom landscape construction and installation firm, is owned by Wayne Melancon who started his landscape business in Lynchburg in 1992.  Land Tech Group specializes in residential landscape projects offering hardscapes, water features, outdoor lighting, construction including structures such as pergolas and pool houses, sheds and remodeling and custom  pools and spas.  Land Tech is a member of and certified by APSP- The Association of Pool and Spa Professionals, are Certified ICPI paver installers and holds a Class A contractor’s license.   Land Tech’s portfolio includes many beautiful projects state-wide and the pool division is continuing to gain an excellent reputation for their beautiful and unique pools and spas.
